This is the 5th and final tutorial of our course, How to create an AI-generated short film.

Editing and finalizing your AI-generated short film is the last step in bringing your project to life. In this tutorial, we’ll guide you through the process of combining your video animations and audio files using Descript, a powerful but easy-to-use video and audio editing tool.

Steps we’ll follow in this tutorial:

  • Upload video files to Descript
  • Upload audio files to Descript
  • Arrange media files in the timeline
  • Export the video

Upload video files to Descript

To get started, create a free account with Descript, and on the Projects page, click the “New Project” button. Make sure to select a video project, not an audio project, when prompted.

This will take us to the Descript video editor. The first thing we need to do is upload all of our video files. To do this, click the “Upload a file” option and select all of the animation files you created in RunwayML.

This will upload all of the animation files to both the visual editor and timeline editor in Descript. If you need to rearrange the video files, you can drag and drop them in the left-side pane to reorder them.

Upload audio files to Descript

Now that our video is added, we can upload our audio files, including the voiceover narration files from ElevenLabs and the soundtrack file from Suno. To do this, click the “Project” tab in the right-side navigation and click the upload icon in the resulting window. Select all of your audio files and add them to the project.

Arrange media files in the timeline

With your audio files added, we can drag them into the Descript timeline. To do this, click on the “Show Timeline” button in the bottom left corner of the page to pull up the video timeline. Then, click, hold, and drag your first voiceover audio file to the timeline. Add it on top of the corresponding video animation.

Repeat this process for all of your audio files, including your soundtrack, which should get its own row in the timeline.

You can expand, shorten, and move around the audio files as you need in the timeline to match the audio with your video animations.

Export the video

Once you’re happy with your video, click the hamburger icon in the top left corner of the page and navigate to File > Export to export your compiled video.

Descript will present you with some export settings. Select the resolution and quality you want, then click the “Export” button.

And that’s it! Your AI-generated short film is complete. If you made it this far, you’ve learned six new AI tools, how to work with various creative AI tools in tandem and have an end-to-end workflow for creating animated films entirely with AI.
